JIM & THE SCHRIMPS
An essential drummer of the 90s New York Downtown Scene, alongside Tim Berne, Dave Douglas and Ellery Eskelin, but above all the founder and leader with Chris Speed of the experimental post-rock quartet AlasNoAxis – whose influence was to prove decisive on the directions of the alternative jazz scene at the beginning of the millennium – Jim Black continues to experiment and explore new territory on the frontiers of instrumental indie rock, improvised noise and post-modern jazz. This sharp-edged new band is a masterful example, bringing together a few 'free electrons' from Berlin's exciting young scene to create an energetic sound with abrasive sonic textures that particularly highlight the complementary lyricism of saxophonists Asger Nissen and Julius Gawlik.
