SAHRAVANE
Since establishing himself in the mid-90s as the great reformer of Afro-Caribbean jazz, Cuban pianist Omar Sosa has never ceased to develop his art of creolization, multiplying transcultural dialogues with all forms of contemporary and traditional music. By teaming up with Algerian singer Souad Asla, the splendid heiress of the ancestral Gnawas brotherhood and their trance music at the head of her group Lemma, he ventures into a resolutely hybrid music in a journey as sensualist as it is spiritual to the sources of groove. Sahravane resonates these timeless, enigmatic melodies rooted in popular Algerian memory, through the prism of modern jazz and the most contemporary forms of Afro-Cuban music.
