Originally formed around the duo of Geoffroy Gesser on saxophone and Romain Clerc-Renaud on keyboards, with the addition of drummer Yann Joussein and singer-improviser Isabel Sörling, the Bribes 4 quartet returns, this time with vocalist Linda Oláh, for a project as ambitious as it is notable, revisiting with a unique blend of erudition and iconoclastic distance a series of archaic blues immortalised in the 30s and 40s by divas such as Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey and Billie Holiday. Borrowing its codes and references from free jazz, noise and post-rock, Bribes 4 deconstructs the grammar of the blues with virtuosity, to take it in lyrical and dreamlike climates filled with vocal improvisations and mutant electronic sounds.
