MYRA MELFORD’S FIRE AND WATER QUINTET
FUREUR & MYSTÈRE
FABRICE BEZ ET ATSUSHI SAKAÏ
Inspired by René Char's collection of poetry "Fureur et Mystère", this 5-movement piece aims to musically transpose the brilliance of Char's poetic words.
Fabrice Bez and Atsushi Sakaï create a music of the moment, imbued with the power of René Char's collection; a score in which the demands of reflective chamber writing are exalted by the freedom of improvisation.

MYRA MELFORD’S FIRE AND WATER QUINTET
With her new 'Fire and Water' Quintet (named after the work of American painter Cy Twombly), American pianist Myra Melford probably offers the most relevant orchestral extension to date of her 'lava-piano', all in graceful gestures and a flow of eruptive materials. Leading this variable-geometry ensemble that brings together some of the most creative female improv musicians on today's experimental jazz scene, Melford, with a constantly stimulating blend of delicacy, sophistication and expressive freedom, plays with virtuosity on the tension between constant control of the collective and the establishment of 'open' spaces that allow energy to break free and overflow into lyrical improvisations of great poetic intensity.
