L’Étoffe des RÊves
It was saxophonist Jean-Charles Richard who initiated this encounter with American Marc Copland, undoubtedly one of the most refined pianists of our time. In this intimate context and with impressive instrumental mastery on both soprano and baritone, Jean-Charles Richard offers an ambitious and precise music, as extraordinarily clear in its delivery as it is profoundly mysterious and sensual in its abstraction. Combining literary and musical influences (from Shakespeare to Messiaen) as the imaginary and formal structures of his compositions, the saxophonist takes the pianist, and on some pieces vocalist Claudia Solal, in a motionless journey as sophisticated as it is fascinating, revealing the incandescent poetry of form brought to perfection.
