Jazzdor
SMAC JAZZ À VOCATION INTERNATIONALE
For over 30 years, Jazzdor has been developing its project focussed on jazz and improvised music.
Given 'Current Music Scene' (SMAC) status by the French Ministry of Culture in 2013, Jazzdor is supported in this mission through a four-year agreement between the DRAC Grand Est, the City of Strasbourg, the Région Grand Est and the Collectivité Européenne d'Alsace.
Neither conforming nor radical: showcasing today's jazz
Jazzdor aims to shine the spotlight on the singularity of jazz creation, particularly French and European creation, regardless of whether it is rooted in the jazz of yesteryear or fuelled by new aesthetic trends.
Encouraging artistic collaboration
Jazzdor promotes emerging musicians, while at the same time supporting the most innovative projects from established artists. Jazzdor encourages and enables musicians from the regional, national and international scenes to interact, providing audiences with unique opportunities to discover new music.
From local to international
By working with dedicated live venues as well as other spaces, Jazzdor's operations span an extensive geographic area, both locally and across the Rhine. Indeed, the focus on Franco-German dialogue is less due to Jazzdor’s geographic location, and more thanks to its commitment to devising real models of cross-border collaboration. Jazzdor's involvement in forging a local and international cultural network makes it distinctive presence within the cultural landscape.
Inviting discovery
Jazzdor works to support audiences. It aims to increase points of access, to demystify the act of creation by bringing audiences closer to it, and to dispel some of the prejudice that surrounds jazz and its contemporary forms. In this way, Jazzdor seeks to expand and revitalise audiences.
