In pianist Pierre Boespflug's personal musical cosmogony, French composer Olivier Messiaen unquestionably holds a special place, sort of a sun around which all the other elements of his universe would gravitate and organise. After working solo on a whole range of reflections and playing modes based on the compositions and writings of this great master of 20th century music, Boespflug is now pursuing and developing his intuitions in a trio setting. Along with Jérôme Fohrer on double bass and Éric Échampard on drums, he offers refined music whose harmonic colours openly refer to Messiaen's enchanted world, without ever leaving the formal framework of jazz, either in its dynamics or in its use of improvisation.
