NUBU
[JAZZ MIGRATION #10]
A mischievous encounter between instruments from different eras: snake, flugabone, trombone, animal-skin percussion and double bass. The voice is given tremendous freedom, treated as a material in its own right, elastic and bouncy, nourished by scansion, yodeling and screams. Nubu greedily plays with eras, explores the marriage of timbres and invents a singular folklore. This quintet with its unusual instrumentation creates music that is as timeless as it is contemporary, between jazz, Anglo-Saxon folk, chanson and explosive, powerfully energizing improvisations. Nubu offers the snake, its mystical charge and its forgotten timbre, an unexpected and breathtaking place in our present.
