WANIA/MONNIOT DUO + CIECHELSKI, DABROWSKI, DRABEK, BER
DOMINIK WANIA & CHRISTOPHE MONNIOT DUO
Since his beginnings with La Campagnie des musiques à ouïr, saxophonist Christophe Monniot has captivated audiences with his unique ability to anchor his discourse in an intimate knowledge of jazz, and to venture into both contemporary chamber music and the more or less imaginary folklores that have nourished European jazz for almost 50 years. A great regulator of the moods of Maciej Obara's quartet, Polish pianist Dominik Wania has established himself in recent years as one of the finest stylists of contemporary jazz, with a luminous touch and a loose phrasing of great harmonic sophistication. Together, these two refined and erudite improvisers intend to cross their experiences in a dialogue that is as free as it is lyrical.
CIECHELSKI, DABROWSKI, DRABEK, BER
Whether as a member of the Prospectus quartet or at the head of the Franges quintet, both winners of the Jazz Migration program, young French saxophonist Léa Ciechelski has made a name for herself in recent years with her particularly stimulating way of updating the combined legacies of the avant-garde jazz of the 60s/70s and the New York downtown scene of the 90s. As part of the Franco-Polish encounters initiated in partnership by the Jazzdor and International Jazz Platform festivals, she is joined by drummer Samuel Ber and two talented representatives of the Polish scene, Tomasz Dabrowski on trumpet and Kamila Drabek on double bass, in a sparkling quartet that resurrects the libertarian energies of free jazz with a resolutely contemporary freshness and lyricism.
