ENEMY
As both pianist and organist, Kit Downes has long been one of the best-kept secrets in British jazz, before recording some highly acclaimed albums for the ECM label in recent years, alongside drummer Sebastian Rochford and singer Norma Winstone, as well as leading his own trio with Frans Petter Eldh on double bass and James Maddren on drums. It is with these long-time collaborators, but in a radically different aesthetic, that Kit Downes now presents his ‘power trio’ project, Enemy. Grounding the essence of their work in the intensity and complexity of polyrhythms set in enigmatic metrics, the three musicians engage body and soul in the meanders of a powerfully organic and energetic collective music, in search of new forms of untamed and transgressive beauty.
