KAMILYA JUBRAN & SARAH MURCIA
YOQAL
Since their paths crossed at the turn of the millennium, Palestinian musician and poet Kamilya Jubran and French double bass player Sarah Murcia have never stopped working together to devise and explore shared idiomatic territories in which to establish a genuine intercultural dialogue in the here and now. Over the years, the modernities in their respective musical styles have merged without ever blending, and the two musicians have continued to refine the singularity of their cross-genre and cross-cultural poetics, developing an enchanted, labyrinthine and highly refined universe on the fringes of the Arab classical tradition, the contemporary sphere and improvised music, borrowing its most intimate inflections from the rhythms and sounds of a poetic language that is both rough and sensual.
