HUGUES MAYOT
L’Arbre rouge
Discovered at the turn of the 2010s as a member of the Coax collective, saxophonist Hugues Mayot, a regular partner of many adventurous musicians on the contemporary jazz scene, quickly revealed himself having a personal universe as refined as it is ambitious, founding the 'Arbre Rouge' quintet in 2015 with an assumed chamber music aesthetic. Welcoming new partners to the orchestra –Clément Janinet on violin and Bruno Ducret on cello – Hugues Mayot continues to work on atypical colours, textures and dynamics, combining the sound of his saxophone with the delicacy of Sophie Bernado's bassoon, while subtly making his discourse evolve on the fringes of popular traditions into resolutely lyrical music, pulsating with totally exotic imaginary ethnic grooves.
