HOLLAND, POTTER, LOUEKE, HARLAND
By placing their association under the high patronage of the Aziza, beneficent fairies from the sub-Saharan mythology, who seize artists to provide them with inspiration, these four giants of contemporary jazz intend to show that their artistic project goes far beyond the simple demonstration of virtuosity to reach much deeper and spiritual areas. If double bassist Dave Holland appears to be the natural leader of this “super group”, Chris Potter, Eric Harland and Lionel Loueke all bring the immense palette of their references to nurture “equally” the sound identity of the ensemble. Generous, lyrical, powerfully melodic, pulsed with funk or African rhythms, and crossed by intense sequences of collective improvisations, Aziza's music draws its strengths from the roots of jazz to better open itself to the world.
