For several years now, Alexandra Grimal has been moving in aesthetic directions that are increasingly independent of jazz: the saxophonist ventures into contemporary or improvised music, and even the visual arts and sound poetry. Joining forces with Yuko Oshima on drums and Jozef Dumoulin on piano and Fender Rhodes, two talented yet elusive figures on the European experimental music scene, the saxophonist returns to the roots of jazz, while multiplying the ways in which she articulates writing and improvisation in devices that are as erudite as they are poetic, resulting in a lyrical, fragile music of jubilant gestural and conceptual freedom.
