FREE SPACE + YA VOY!
FREE SPACE
For over 20 years, cellist Vincent Courtois and actor Pierre Baux have specialized in the art of exploring the relationship between music and literature, through open forms that venture into the sonic plasticity of text at the risk of improvisation. Under the artistic direction of Dutch clarinettist and composer Fie Schouten, they do it again, plunging into the labyrinthine mysteries of Georges Perec's Espèces d'espaces. Using the text and its many variations on the theme to question the very notion of space in the field of music, this unclassifiable and constantly stimulating proposition opens up its own intimate territories at the frontiers of contemporary music, improvisation and musical theater, playing with virtuosity on the dynamics of emptiness.
¡YA VOY!
Since settling in France in 2004, Colombian singer and percussionist Alejandra Charry has been steadily expanding her opportunities to take the vocal techniques, forms and ancestral rhythms of her country's traditional music into improbable metamorphoses in contact with some of the most daring jazz musicians on the young European scene. As for French double bassist Thibault Cellier, he's all about jazz and improvised music, boldness, commitment and revisited heritages.
Their quartet, formed with tenor saxophonist Sakina Abdou and Moises Zamora Mesù on marimba and percussion, aims to take the universalist utopia of their respective histories a step further, building new bridges between the lyricism and expressive freedom of contemporary neo-free jazz and its musical heritage of dance, trance and world melodies.
¡Ya Voy! is supported by the IF Export program, the CNM, Spedidam and the Département de Seine-Maritime.
Co-produced by La Fraternelle, Chants d'elles, Sons d'hiver, La Cidrerie, Jazzdor.
