RASMUSSEN / PLIAKAS / WERTMÜLLER
RASMUSSEN, PLIAKAS, WERTMÜLLER
Among the young musicians who have recently made their mark on the vast field of improvised music, Denmark's Mette Rasmussen is undoubtedly one of the most audacious, generous and irreducible. An alto saxophonist with a harsh, raw and impulsive style, she invents a fundamentally libertarian music driven by energies as much akin to free music as to punk rock. Propelled by the tumultuous rhythm section that accompanied the great Peter Brötzmann on his legendary “Full Blast” album, Mette Rasmussen throws herself body and soul into sonic outbursts that are both spontaneous and intimately controlled. In so doing, she follows in the superb footsteps of saxophonists who, from Albert Ayler onwards, have revolutionized the instrument and opened up jazz to the spells of free improvisation.
