For two decades, the musical company Le SonArt has been exploring every avenue that could nurture the originality of its founder, composer and multi-instrumentalist David Chevallier. The jazz quartet created for The Time Machine is no exception to this rule, bringing together contemporary jazz and 17th-century instruments by inviting four soloists familiar with the theorbo, sackbut, and other bass viols, which are rarely heard in our concert halls. Based on H.G. Wells' novel The Time Machine, which questions our relationship with time, The Time Machine follows the structure of the book, with each chapter inspiring composition and improvisation. Resolutely anachronistic, this original conversation, performed exclusively on Baroque instruments, offers a journey through time that is as strange as it is unexpected.

Sie haben alle drei in der amerikanischen Avantgarde der 1990er- und 2000er-Jahre mitgemischt – der Gitarrist Marc Ducret in den vielfältigen Projekten von Tim Berne, der Trompeter Ralph Alessi als Partner von Steve Coleman, der Schlagzeuger Jim Black mit seiner Band AlasNoAxis. Sie sind heute anerkannte Figuren der Post-Jazz-Szene. Jeder von ihnen hat sich sein ureigenes Territorium im Grenzgebiet von Indie-Rock, modernem Jazz, Zeitgenössischer E-Musik und Improvisation erschlossen. Aus dem Zusammenfluss ihrer Entwicklungen und Erfahrungen entspringt eine stilübergreifende, energiegeladene, zugleich lyrische und intellektuelle Musik, die in ihren formalen Strukturen und kratzigen Klangtexturen vor keinem Experiment zurückschreckt.
