HENRI TEXIER BLUE ROOTS QUINTET
At the age of 80, bassist, composer and bandleader Henri Texier, a historic figure on the European jazz scene, is still churning out projects, and has never seemed so creative or so happy to share his music on stage. Illuminated by the lyrical brilliance of Hermon Mehari's trumpet and magnificently regulated by pianist Emmanuel Borghi's pearly phrasing, his brand-new group borrows its orchestral colors and dynamics from the canonical hard bop quintet for the first time, revisiting a series of unjustly forgotten early compositions with its inimitable lyricism and sense of groove. In this nostalgia-free return to his roots, Henri Texier rediscovers the modernity of the Blue Note spirit of the 1960s, offering us a vibrant hymn to jazz and improvisation.
