As part of the Franco-Polish encounters organized jointly by the Jazzdor and International Jazz Platform festivals, Amalia Umeda and Aleksandra Kryńska on violin, Maëlle Desbrosses on viola and Adèle Viret on cello had the opportunity to join forces to shake up the strings and forms of the string quartet with a perfectly jubilant blend of erudition and irreverence. Embracing the history of this orchestral formula emblematic of Western tradition right down to its most contemporary variations, Äether explores the zones of tension and dialogue between extremely refined writing and the instantaneous organization modes typical of jazz and collective improvisation, giving rise to a hybrid music that is both expansive and skilfully deconstructivist.
