DANILO PEREZ, JOHN PATITUCCI, ADAM CRUZ
Acclaimed at an early age by Dizzy Gillespie, the great initiator of the fertile marriage between modern jazz and Afro-Cuban traditions, Panamanian pianist Danilo Perez has established himself, since the turn of the millennium and his active participation in saxophonist Wayne Shorter's brilliant quartet, as one of the most brilliant pianists of his generation. With his luxuriant virtuosity, he leads a powerfully organic trio formed with bassist John Patitucci, his accomplice with Shorter, and drummer Adam Cruz, articulating a melodic abundance and rhythmic exuberance inherited from his Latin culture with harmonies borrowed from Western art music and a definitive jazz sense of interplay. Their music is refined, mixed and delightful.
Opening night of the 40th edition of the Jazzdor-Strasbourg festival, sponsored by the City of Strasbourg.
