Mirroring his own career, which has seen him born in Israel, perfect his training in the Netherlands and, since moving to Lisbon, actively participate in the proliferation of free jazz and contemporary European improvised music, clarinettist Ziv Taubenfeld has always conceived his music as a space for encounter and communion between musicians from all horizons. The Spirit Quartet, featuring American trombonist Steve Swell, Dutch double bassist Wilbert de Joode and Korean drummer Sun Mi Hong, is a magnificent illustration of this. Under the aegis of iconic Chicagoan free jazz saxophonist Jemeel Moondoc, the quartet proposes to “bring souls together” in a music entirely dedicated to the mysteries of sound and improvisation.
