Korean drummer Sun-Mi Hong is a rising star as well as a refined and demanding composer, and has been involved in all the adventures of the new Dutch jazz scene since moving to Amsterdam over ten years ago. The drummer has turned her constantly evolving music into a space for metabolizing her multiple encounters and the matrix of a hybrid beauty, radically singular and visionary. At the head of her quintet, born in 2017, a small laboratory for her universalist utopias, she invents a generous and powerfully energetic music, inventively articulating real work on form with an unshakeable faith in the emancipating virtues of improvisation.
