PIERRICK PÉDRON 4TET
A SHAPE OF ORNETTE
Never short of ideas, saxophonist Pierrick Pédron ventures into the perilous project of a loving re-reading of the iconic album The Shape of Jazz to Come, recorded in 1959 by the brilliant Ornette Coleman. At the head of his regular quartet, featuring double bassist Thomas Bramerie and two of the most promising young talents on the French jazz scene, pianist Carl-Henri Morisset and drummer Elie Martin-Charrière, Pédron takes up this great masterpiece of historical free jazz and enlivens it with his own energy and orchestral colors. Revisiting its theme through the prism of new arrangements, constantly on the edge between tradition and modernity, his quartet lyrically celebrates the intact and eminently contemporary poetry of an authentically libertarian music.
