After venturing his cello into the more untrodden paths of jazz and contemporary improvised music, Vincent Courtois decided to return to more openly classical and intimate settings, inviting pianist Colin Vallon to a spontaneous and erudite dialogue on the frontiers of improvisation and new forms of composition. The two musicians consciously play with the codes of the ancestral sonata form, nourishing the collective discourse with their particular sensibilities and intimate knowledge of Western chamber music. The duo's music is powerfully melodic and lyrical, regularly veering away from the traditional frameworks that underpin it into intense, dreamlike drifts of great poetic density.
