JAMIKA & the Argonauts
Jamika Ajalon's deep voice and feverish phrasing were first discovered in France at the turn of the millennium, when the American singer was part of the dub group Zenzilé. It wasn't long before this multi-disciplinary artist – singer, actress, author, composer and poet – began to impose her signature sound through a series of collaborations and personal projects, culminating in 2013 with drummer Manu De Mangeon and guitarist/keyboardist Nicklaus Rohrbach as the Jamika & the Argonauts trio. In a hybrid, electric setting that blends grooves, energies and sound textures from dub, electro, hip hop and rock, Jamika delivers her tumultuous flow, playing with all dimensions of her voice to convey a message that is as poetic as it is political, with subtle Afro-futurist overtones.
