ANDREAS SCHAERER TRIO
Discovered in the mid-2010s leading his fanciful Hildegard Lernt Fliegen sextet, Switzerland's Andreas Schaerer has established himself over the years not only as a vocal phenomenon with mind-blowing, ultra-spectacular virtuosity, but also as an authentic musician with a deeply personal universe as peculiar as it is coherent. One more proof comes in the form of this new trio with Finnish guitarist Kalle Kalima and bassist Tim Lefebvre. In a flow as rich and tumultuous as it is constantly controlled, Schaerer moves from baroque expressionism to Sprechgesang, from free improvisation to beatboxing, from soulful lyricism to the most acrobatic scat, developing an organic, hybrid music where sounds, meanings and grooves merge into a single bewitching maelstrom of sound.

EX MACHINA
Since he took over the Artistic Direction of the ONJ in 2018, Fred Maurin has regularly invited other artists to take the reins of an orchestra which is now more polymorphous than ever and open to diversity. For this ambitious new program, he has teamed up with American saxophonist and composer Steve Lehman, both seeking to adapt the language of spectral music – developed in France in the 1970s by composers such as Tristan Murail and Gérard Grisey – to the format of a modern jazz large ensemble. Leading a 15-piece band, assisted by two computer music specialists from the IRCAM laboratories, Maurin and Lehman use a wide range of strategies to explore the possibilities of human-machine interaction, inventing a truly magical sound world.
